A new quality assurance system for higher education
On Tuesday March 2 in 2016, The Swedish parliament decided on a new framework for a quality assurance system for higher education. UKÄ (Swedish Higher Education Authority) will be responsible for the further development of the framework and expects to get a formal mandate from the government shortly.
UKÄ is looking forward to develop a new quality assurance system that will combine the elements of an enhancement-led approach and a focus on control, says university chancellor Harriet Wallberg.
The system will be developed in close cooperation with the higher education institutions, students and labour market representatives.
It is important that the model is grounded among all stakeholders. We will of course use experts in the assessment of the quality of programs, which is a proven way of carrying out quality assurance, says Harriet Wallberg.
The Swedish Higher Education Authority expects the first pilot assessments to begin in autumn 2016.
